In September of 2009, the State
Bar of California will hold its Annual Meeting at the Manchester Grand
Hyatt in San Deigo California. The Hyatt's owner, Doug Manchester,
contributed $125,000 to the "Yes on Proposition 8" campaign, which
after its passage, denied the fundamental right to marry to same-sex
couples across California.
BALIF, Bay Area Lawyers for
Individual Freedom, the Northern California LGBT bar association, will
be actively boycotting and protesting the State Bar's decision to hold
the annual meeting at the Hyatt, despite it's owner's support for
stripping basic civil rights from millions of Californians.
